Apate.ai Is Partnering with Mobileum to Provide Telecom Networks with Autonomous Scam Intelligence Defence Capabilities

Apate.ai is partnering with Mobileum to turn scam interactions into actionable intelligence for Communication Service Providers (CSPs).
From detection and blocking, to disruption and dismantling. The new path forward for fraud prevention across the telco industry.
Global telecom fraud losses reached $41.82 billion in 2025 and continue to climb as operators become better equipped. Over the same period, the share of operators using machine learning or AI for fraud detection rose from 38% to 75%. As a result, Juniper Research expects SMS fraud losses to fall around 10% this year as message volumes decline and firewalls improve. However, scam victimisation rates across the ASEAN region rose from 31% to 43%, with voice calls and OTT messaging being the primary attack surface. TNS found 17% of confirmed spoofed calls in the US carried the highest attestation level. Legacy systems and outdated playbooks of blocking and filtering are no longer sufficient to protect consumers across various communication channels.
Why Certainty Beats Probability in Scam Detection
Scam sophistication outpaces legacy detection
Scammers increasingly use automation and AI to operate at scale and rapidly rotate their scripts, identities, tactics, and infrastructure. As these operations grow more sophisticated, detection and disruption become harder for legacy tools to keep pace with.
Blocking ends the interaction at the expense of the investigation
A block resolves the call and closes the record on it. The carrier is left with a number and a timestamp, which is enough to count the event but not enough to attribute it, and the detection model that made the call retrains on an outcome that was never investigated. Meanwhile the operation rotates numbers, routing paths and sender IDs within minutes, so the same campaign returns on infrastructure the filters have never seen, and the cycle repeats a step behind.
Scam indicators are a byproduct of harm
A number, mule account or sender ID only shows up in industry reports after fraudulent activity has been completed. This puts every carrier working from those feeds a step behind the campaign that generated them.
How Mobileum and Apate.ai deliver Scam Intelligence Defence
The partnership combines Mobileum's telco intelligence with Apate's AI-powered conversational agents, positioned as the next step after blocking. Rather than only preventing a fraudulent call or SMS, suspicious traffic is redirected to Apate's AI agents to engage with the scammers, extract intelligence, and feed that back to strengthen CSPs defences.
Apate's agents have held more than 9.3 million autonomous conversations with threat actors, consumed 17 years of scammer time and contributed to more than $33 million in avoided losses.
A Solution that Enables Telcos to Meet the Global Shift
Safeguard customers and their data
A proactive scam intelligence defence system significantly reduces fraudulent activity reaching subscribers, giving customers greater peace of mind and confidence in their provider. Protecting customers and their data is not only about compliance, but also reduces the financial and operational drain of fraud for both parties.
Amplify CSP’s intelligence
By gathering real-time intelligence from active mule accounts and live campaigns, CSPs can stay ahead of these operations rather than reacting case by case. This shifts the focus from stopping a single threat to addressing the infrastructures behind it.
Disrupt fraud operations
Intelligence extracted from live scam interactions gives CSPs the evidence needed to take direct action, blocking the numbers and accounts behind a campaign, and sharing indicators with banks, regulators, and industry partners. Rather than waiting for the next victim, telcos can actively dismantle the business model of scam operations, making it harder and more costly for these operators to function at scale.
Turn Scam Traffic into an Intelligence Advantage
Engage scammers, uncover their tactics, and strengthen defences with AI-powered scam intelligence. The old playbook of detect, block, and repeat was never built for fraud operators who adapt by the minute. Mobileum and Apate equip CSPs with the enhanced intelligence and real-time visibility needed to disrupt and dismantle the business model of scammers at scale.
